Vignettes of Seasonal Duality

A dark-eyed junco, who on its way north, finds itself in a setting where spring beauties bloom.

Crocuses made their debut at the tail end of winter. Snow fell on them in the early days of spring. Strict seasonal boundaries are hard to find, and that makes transitions from one season to the next entertaining or, at times, even bewildering. Regional dualities are not uncommon.

I saw a flock of dark-eyed juncos hopping around in a lawn sprinkled with blooming spring beauties. The dark-eyed junco is typically known as a snowbird in this region and will be heading north soon with warblers in its wake. Seeing these birds among this floral display was seeing another interaction between winter and spring, another duality.
