About Katherine

My name is Katherine Thunherst. I am an artist whose work often features the beauty and whimsy of the natural world. Everything from a bird’s feathers to a flower’s petals is caringly drawn and painted in a variety of mediums that includes colored pencil, graphite, watercolor, acrylic paint, and pen. Polymer clay also makes appearances on my desk. Every pencil mark and brush stroke is built upon in a lengthy process until they have been organized into either a realistic or more illustrative composition. Watching a blank piece of paper transform as it gradually acquires an image of something that was not there before is an enjoyable process.

When I am not making art, I might be paging through a book or two (or twelve) or meandering outside. By meandering, I mean birding, studying ants, and looking for wildflowers.
